NIL stands for “Name, Image, and Likeness” specifically referring to the use of an athlete’s NIL through marketing and promotional endeavors. Student-athletes at NCAA institutions could begin monetizing their NIL beginning on July 1, 2021.

There is no current legislation for Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) announced in Utah. It is important for Athletic Departments and Student-Athletes to maintain a clear line of communication on all things NIL related to make sure both are remaining compliant with the NCAA and/or Institutional policies.
The Royal Blue has a Board of Directors whose purpose is to organize the entity, raise funds, and review and ratify annual audits.
The Board of Directors will not be paid by The Royal Blue for ANY purpose in furtherance of the NIL activities.
The Royal Blue intends to operate as a public charity as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Generally speaking, all NIL activities are permitted, as they follow these four guidelines:
4. Institutions do not provide compensation in exchange for the use of a student-athlete’s NIL.
NCAA rules also require student-athletes to follow their state law or institutional policy if there is no existing state law governing NIL activities.
The Royal Blue works with student-athletes from Brigham Young University.
